Overview

This course provides a solid understanding of the project management life cycle and practical experience with the tools and techniques of project management. You’ll learn how to initiate, plan, monitor, control, and closeout your projects more effectively. This training provides practical skills, concepts, and principles you can take back to the job and implement right away.

Target Audience

This course is designed for project managers, project team members, executives, functional managers, and any individuals involved with the planning, implementation and control of projects. It provides an understanding of the terminology, and working knowledge of the processes involved in project management for those who have limited experience with practical, formal project management methods.

  • Understand the concept of project management, basic project terminology, and be able to describe the elements of a project management system, the project management life cycle and key project management processes
  • Recognize the characteristics, skills, roles and responsibilities of a project manager
  • Identify the core steps of project initiation and authorization, and recognize the critical elements needed for documentation to carry forward to the scope definition process
  • Understand the importance of proper project work scope definition and planning, and its impact on the future of the project, along with creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Perform detailed planning including defining the elements and creating a project model, and understanding the Critical Path Method (CPM)
  • Understand resource management inputs, results and options for issue resolution
  • Define elements of project costs, the information needed, methods of estimating, and results when integrated with project schedule details
  • Recognize the elements and process of risk management, including basic definitions, the resource management plan, risk identification, risk analysis, risk response planning and monitoring
  • Create and manage the project scope, schedule and cost baselines, including understanding the importance of change management
  • Track the status of a project during project execution and measure performance impacts, including the use of the Earned Value Method (EVM)
  • Close out a project by collecting key project data, closing out contracts, and collecting lessons learned
